Southwell City 1 v Harworth Colliery 2 - Friendly

Saturday 13th July 2013,
at the Memorial Ground, Bishops Drive, Southwell
Pre Season Friendly
Southwell City (1) 1
Liam Webster 34
Harworth Colliery (1) 2
Chris Belshaw 40
Matt Smith 55
Attendance: 40 or so
Southwell City:
Sorry, I didn't get their line up details.
Harworth Colliery:
Latham, (J) Hardman, Woodward, Rawson, Burns, Belshaw, Edmondson, Walker, Sides, Pick, Bonser
Subs - Baum, Webb, (S) Hardman, Ball, Smith, Brewster, Wibberley
Stifling heat at kick off time (2pm), meant that lots of fluid intake and rolling subs were order of the day at the Memorial Ground.
Only James Woodward and Jordan Hardman did a full 90 minute shift for the Colliery this afternoon, in stamina busting, hot and humid conditions, while the entire Harworth squad listed above all got a run out at some point.
Liam Webster put Southwell ahead, when he caught the visiting defence out with a snap shot from 30 yards on 34 mins.
But Chris Belshaw scored Harworth's first goal of the 2013-14 from close range, after some good work from Tom Pick and Si Brewster, five minutes before the break. And nobody can take that accolade away from you Belly ;-)
HT 1-1
The second half became a test of endurance as the fierce sun continued to beat down on the top pitch at Bishops Drive ... and both teams, the referee (and the club linesmen) deserve a lot of credit for not letting up their work rate on what must've been a difficult afternoon for all concerned.
Andy Webb put over a right wing cross for Matt Smith, who's header found the back of the net for the only goal of the second half.
I'm happy to report that Harworth have kept their first team squad from last term together and have made a few quality new signings too.
It all bodes very well for the forthcoming season.
BRING IT ON!
