Brodsworth Welfare v Harworth Colliery Institute - CMFL North - Abandoned ... Floodlight failure 52 minutes

Wednesday 15th August, at the Welfare Ground, Woodlands
Central Midlands League (North)
Brodsworth Welfare (0)
Harworth Colliery Institute (1)
Gareth Sides 42
Admission £3, Programme £1
Abandoned 52 minutes
Harworth deservedly went in front through Gaz Sides on 42 minutes, having had by far the better of the first half.
Their interval lead could, quite easily, have been much better, but following on from their impressive result at the weekend (a 4-1 away win at the much fancied Dronfield Town), it looked odds on that the Colliery side were on their way to another 3 points on the road tonight and it was just a question of when, rather than if, they made the result safe.
Alas, on 52 minutes, the generator powering the floodlights, that had been making a right racket ever since it was turned on, went up in a puff of smoke and the night was plunged into darkness.
It didn't take long to decide the burnt out 'genny' was beyond repair and the referee had no option but to call the game off.
Which was a real irony in light of the fact that he'd only given the game the go ahead 30 minutes prior to kick off, on the proviso that there was no more rain, after a torrential downpour had meant there were a few puddles of standing water on the pitch, that required a bit of spadework, mopping up and forking about to get rid of.
The abandonment was a real shame for the visitors, because after a bit of a stop/start pre season, they're building up some real momentum now that 2012-13 is upon us for real and gathering a real head of steam.
They'll do alright this season ... but I'll stick to reserved optimism for now and leave all the 'In your face ... I effing well told you so!' sentiments until a later date.
You've been forewarned ;-)
Harworth's Under 19's drew 2-2 at Southwell City tonight, in a game where the home side equalised inside the last five minutes.
Two of the Under 19's had travelled with the first team tonight, a good sign that all the unsung work Glenn and Hasan have put in over the last few years is starting to bear fruition.
Gaz Sides' goal at Brodsworth tonight, came following a well worked routine by some of his team mates, but I'm keeping schtum about what happened ... it wouldn't do to have CMFL North spies from other clubs, picking up any tips and ideas from this impartial and neutral blog.
Broddy Welfare at 9pm tonight

Elsewhere, well done to Maltby Main, who beat Cheadle in their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round replay, setting up a home tie against Chadderton at Muglet Lane on Saturday 25th August in the next round.
And also to England Reserves beat Italy Reserves 2-1, at the Wankdorf Stadium, in Berne.
In the CMFL North, AFC Mansfield kept up their 100% start to the season with two wins out of two, as did Clay Cross Town (formerly known as Parkhouse) and Ollerton Town, but Kiveton Park top the table having scored 7 (seven) twice in the space of a few days ... but none of them should be getting their hopes up too high just yet though, because they've still all got to play against Harworth!
